notice all the same patterns happening with legion (and previously dust?) The only thing that article confirms is that WoD was canceled and some tidbits as to why.
According to very recent quotes from Hilmar Dust 514 is profitable. Recent quotes from Rouge indicate he wants a New Eden FPS on PC. Several CPM1 have all but come out and said if Dust 514 continues to make CCP money they will actively work towards a port to PC/PS4.
It sucks that CCP isn't telling us anything about Legion.
It sucks they won't discuss with us their thoughts on PC vs. PS4.
It sucks CCP Rouge hasn't talked directly to the players in months.
It sucks that the first expansion for Dust 514 was mostly new monetization avenues.
It sucks we still don't have solid FPS controls.
Etc. etc. etc. etc.
All of those things suck and it does make us bitter... but don't let that bitterness cause you to spout hyperbole.

If you want to play the "If CCP did X I would do Y" game... If CCP confirmed that Eve: Legion is underway and has a tentative alpha date of Q1 2016 I would spend $50+/month on aurum. If I knew this game had a future on the PC the amount of money I would spend on it would be bordering insanity.

Or are you referring to new weapons, dropsuits, equipment, etc.? Well, no, there hasn't been anything new released. The CCP Shanghai team is supposedly 5 people, including Rattati. If that is true then the team is probably prioritizing their time. They are comparing time spent on a new weapon vs. time spent on a half dozen small QoL fixes and decided on the later.

If they did try something like that we would get a 100% brand new asset every 4 - 6 months.

Using a pitch like that the exact amount of profitability is mostly irrelevant. It matters that Dust 514 is still making money even though the odds are against it.
